Repacking Your Bags
is a one-day workshop for those who are preparing for and embracing a transition to the next phase of their lives. This workshop shows participants how to balance four elements critical to personal fulfillment: place, love, work and purpose.
Why do we need it?
Unbelievably, most people spend more time planning their vacations than they do planning the rest of their lives. They just never quite get around to dealing with the future until one day the future arrives—unannounced, unplanned and unwelcomed. As people get older, the future seems to arrive more quickly all the time. This is currently true for the world’s largest population—the Babyboomers—who are reaching or have already reached retirement and are deciding what the rest of their life holds.
Members of this generation may discover that it is time to unpack and repack their "life" bags—to examine what they’re carrying and why. The
Repacking Your Bags
workshop provides participants with the time, the tools and the process to revise, shape and map their lifestyle and workstyle options. Repacking is an ongoing activity of reweighing and rearranging priorities; redefining your vision of the good life; and recovering a new sense of being alive.
Who is it for?
Repacking is for those in mid-life, particularly those of the Baby Boom era, who are preparing for and embracing a transition to the next phase of their lives. The program is for anyone facing:
Transitions in career or professional direction
Overwhelming responsibilities for work and family
Waning energy and passion about life
Mid-life questioning and challenges
Hunger to grow in the next phase of life
What is it?
Based on the book by the same title,
Repacking Your Bags
is a one-day seminar that helps people develop their own vision of the "good life" and design their lives to live it. The seminar provides the time, tools and process to help people discover what they're really looking for. It shows them how to "unpack" and "repack" their physical, emotional and intellectual baggage and create a plan that balances four elements critical to personal fulfillment: place, love, work and purpose.
What are the results?
Repacking Your Bags
enables participants to:
Define their personal vision of the good life: what makes them happy and what's weighing them down.
Choose the right balance in their lives and focus their energy around what matters most to them.
Create meaningful dialogues about important issues with loved ones and colleagues.
Program Structure
Repacking Your Bags
defines the good life: “Living in the place you belong, with the people you love, while doing the right work on purpose.” The workshop focuses on four areas of the good life to help people define their own vision and then design their lives in order to live it.
Place: Where in the world is home? This area helps participants focus their vision on where home is in the world. Questions include: Where would you like to live? How would you like to live? What community will enable you to do the right work? Where do your spouse, partner and family feel they should be? Where do you unpack?
Love: With whom do I want to travel? To have meaningful, fully alive relationships, we must be willing to unpack our relationship bags. In some cases this might mean choosing to end unhealthy relationships in order to find more fulfillment in healthier relationships.
Work: How can I lighten my work load? As the possibility of retirement draws near, work and career options take on different shapes. Retirement itself is being redefined as many in the Baby Boomer generation decide to start second careers instead of leaving the workforce. This area helps participants focus on what they want in the next phase of their life in terms of work/career.
Purpose: What is my purpose? Learning to lighten our loads for the rest of our lives is a central lesson of our time. And it is a lesson we all can learn by loving passionately for today and purposefully for tomorrow. This area helps participants discover the freedom of the road by figuring out what happens if they get lost. And what happens if they don’t get lost.
